Craig’s Priorities
Craig Heurung’s priorities for St. Cloud City Council Ward 4 focus on responsible spending, common-sense government, listening to residents, and building a stronger St. Cloud.
He knows St. Cloud faces challenges that will not be solved overnight. His approach is practical: understand the problem, look at the facts, consider the cost, listen to different perspectives, and work toward solutions that serve the greater good of St. Cloud.
Responsible Spending
RESPECTING THE PEOPLE WHO PAY THE BILLS
Craig spent decades in the private sector working in an environment where controlling costs, improving efficiency, reducing waste, managing fuel expenses, and getting the most from available resources were part of doing business every day.
He believes city government should approach taxpayer dollars with that same level of care.
Every dollar the city spends comes from somewhere, and Craig believes residents deserve to know that their money is being used responsibly. That means asking whether spending is necessary, whether there is a more efficient way to accomplish the same goal, and whether taxpayers are receiving real value for what they are being asked to fund.
Craig does not believe responsible spending means automatically saying no. It means asking the right questions before saying yes.
“Taxpayers pay for the services the city provides, and they deserve a voice in how their money is spent.”
Common-Sense Government
ASK QUESTIONS. LOOK AT THE FACTS. THINK BEFORE VOTING.
Craig believes serving on the City Council requires more than simply showing up and voting yes.
Council members are entrusted with decisions that affect residents, businesses, neighborhoods, city services, and taxpayers. Craig believes those decisions deserve careful consideration.
That means asking questions when something doesn’t make sense, looking beyond the immediate issue to understand the consequences, considering different points of view, and being willing to say no when a proposal is not in the best interest of the community.
Craig knows not everyone will agree on every issue. He doesn’t expect them to. But he believes residents should be able to expect their representatives to think independently, listen carefully, and make decisions based on what they believe will best serve St. Cloud.
“Common sense may not always lead everyone to the same answer, but it should always require us to ask the right questions.”
A Stronger St. Cloud
WORKING TOWARD A BETTER TOMORROW FOR ALL
Craig grew up in St. Cloud and has watched the community change throughout his lifetime.
While knocking on doors across Ward 4, he asked residents what concerned them most about life in St. Cloud. Many expressed concerns about the direction of the city and whether the community is moving toward a better future.
Craig understands there is no single solution to every challenge facing St. Cloud. Some problems will take time. Others will require cooperation among the City Council, city staff, residents, businesses, community organizations, and other partners.
What matters to Craig is that the decisions made at City Hall ultimately contribute to a safer, stronger, healthier community and benefit the greater good of all St. Cloud residents.
“The decisions we make should benefit the greater good of all the citizens of St. Cloud.”
Listening Comes First
Craig’s campaign has been built around conversations.
He knocks on doors. He talks with residents. He asks what matters to them. And he listens.
Craig believes the people closest to a problem often have valuable insight into it. He wants residents to know that their concerns will not stop mattering once the election is over.
A City Council member cannot promise to agree with every resident on every issue. Craig won’t make that promise.
What he can promise is to listen, ask questions, consider the facts, and take the responsibility of representing Ward 4 seriously.
Common Sense. Practical Experience. A Better Tomorrow.
Craig is ready to bring decades of private-sector experience, deep roots in St. Cloud, and a commitment to listening to Ward 4 residents to the City Council.
